This town was freaking dumb. Okay, so there were nice people here. But so far she hadn't met any of her siblings or rather, she hadn't gotten the nerve up yet to meet her siblings. She was staying in a crumby motel that had toilet stains older than she was and some really unsavoury connections elsewhere. And she had about two hundred more bucks to her name after she'd fixed some broken pawned items and answered a couple of Covelist job wants. And still nowhere near enough money to get her back to Washington with her car. Which meant she might have to sell it or worse ask her father for help which was infinitely worse.
Watching as a couple of kids, well people her age, jumped off the boardwalk she rolled her eyes. It didn't matter if you were in Washington on cliffs or a boardwalk, kids were going to be idiots no matter what. She could just see Sam doing it a couple years ago. Ugh, that asshole.
"Coming through," Abigail gripped the rail as one of them bumped into her on their way past to throw themselves off it again.
"Jackasses," Abigail muttered under her breath as she passed the teenagers wearing letterman jackets for what she assumed was the local high school. Hearing them mutter to themselves, she felt them slide their hands beneath her arm and lift her up off the safety of the boardwalk. Laptop bag dropping to the ground, she began to struggle as they pulled her towards the edge where they had all been jumping off. "Get off me! Hey! Get your hands off me, don't I can't- HEY! QUIT I-AAAAAAAH!"
Abigail screamed as the boys threw her over the boardwalk fencing towards the deep waters of the ocean, flailing she shrieked as she hit the water and sunk like a stone. Kicking her legs panicked, her arms hit out as she tried to push against the water weighing her clothes down and pulling her down. She could feel her body fighting her, trying to change but she could do this, she could do it. Feeling the cold water strangle her, she coughed as she managed to break the surface and gasp air in and swallowed salt water before she was pulled beneath a wave.
"Dude, why isn't she getting up? Fuck, we're in trouble- hey! Hey! HELP! I think she's drowning!" One of the kids shouted, calling out as Abigail began to be the world's first siren to freaking drown.
ooc: come save abby from drowning!

Date: 2014-10-20 07:24 pm (UTC)It all clears when he hears the shriek. That's not stupid kids playing kind of "get off me", and he looks around.
There's something way too familiar about a bunch of jocks picking up some eyelinery kid, girl or not, and he can feel himself getting angry. But when he sees her fall - get thrown - he takes off running, alarmed before they even start yelling. He's been swimming in ocean waves since he could walk, jumping off cliffs like an idiot. He knows fear when he sees it, and this isn't swimming season.
"It's October and you threw a girl off the boardwalk," he snaps at the boys, skewering them with a glare as he sheds his jacket. "Do you have a brain between you? Go get help. Now!"
He dives off into the waves, filling his lungs as he hits the freezing water. The current's strong here. He treads water, looking around, and sees a flash of pale skin, flailing. Wren takes off for her, reaching an arm out to grab her to him.

Date: 2014-10-20 08:26 pm (UTC)Wren's pulled down a little bit by the girl grabbing hold, but he recovers easily. Some part of him feels easy in the water, always has: aware that maybe he should be fighting for air or cold, but he just isn't. Like he could stay underwater forever if he wanted. He's never questioned that before. After seeing Alex the other day...but there are more important things at hand. When the girl exhales he breathes a sigh of relief.
"Hey," he says, floating on his back and pulling the girl up. "You're okay, relax. Can you swim?"

Date: 2014-10-20 08:38 pm (UTC)"No! No, I don't- don't know how." She replied, trying not to freak out at the waves or the water or the fact she was pretty sure her body would hulk out on her any second. Except it wouldn't be a giant green rage monster she turned into. Although that she would in fact prefer. "I need to get out- I need to get out the water now. Get me out, get me out, get me out."

Date: 2014-10-20 09:08 pm (UTC)He needs her to relax and not fight, and his instinct is music: he hums a little under his breath, something mindless and soothing, trying to come across relaxed himself.
"What's your name?" Wren asks her as he heads backwards toward the pier.

Date: 2014-10-21 12:47 am (UTC)"All of you better stay here and still be here when I get back. I've got nothing better to do than hunt you little assholes down if you run." He pushes the guy away and shrugs out of his jacket as he hops up onto the railing and dives down into the water below.
He moves the water with graceful precision, just like he always has, and slings an arm around the girl's waist just as she hits the sandy bottom. She's small and he's up to the surface in no time, cutting through the water with one arm and heading for the shore.
The boys are still looking over the railing when Caden looks up and he glares at them. He tears his attention away form them to focus on the girl as he lays her gently on the sand. She's very young and pale and most importantly not moving, not breathing, and Caden swallows hard as he leans over her and pinches her nose.
"Please don't kill me for this," he mutters, and then presses his mouth to hers to breathe air back into her lungs.

Date: 2014-10-21 02:28 pm (UTC)"Oh g-god," Abigail spluttered, blinking as she looked blearily up at the guy who'd saved her. Lips trembling at the cold, she shivered as she pressed back against solid land. "I'm on land?"

Date: 2014-10-21 03:57 pm (UTC)Caden sits back on his haunches when the girl pushes him back, grinning in relief and keeping a comforting hand on her shoulder as she coughs up saltwater into the wet sand. He puts his other hand over her smaller one on his chest and nods, patting it a few times before letting go.
"Yeah, you're safe," Caden tells her, smiling reassuringly. He notices how bad she's trembling and immediately goes to remove his jacket before remembering that 1) it's up on the pier and 2) he's also freezing wet. He could pull her up against him, but he doubts that would be appreciated.
"Do you want me to call an ambulance?" He jerks his chin towards the pier, where the boys are still watching with worried, petulant expressions. "Or the police?"
One timid looking boy is walking towards them with Caden's jacket and shoes and a laptop bag he assumes must be the girl's. He hands the stuff over and fidgets, looking down at the girl without meeting her eyes. "I'm sorry. I didn't know they were gonna do that. I - I should have tried to stop it."
"Yeah, probably," Caden snaps. He's so nice and laidback on a good day, but he can't stand bullshit like this. He grabs the stuff from his hands and shoos him away, ignoring his own trembling fingers to sit the girl up and wrap his thick peacoat around her. "Okay, hat should help."

Date: 2014-10-21 04:46 pm (UTC)Shaking her head at the question of the ambulance or the police. She didn't want to end up stuck in this town while they tried some stupid dumb kids for being stupid and dumb. She just wanted to get warm and dry and get the water off her skin, get the need to change out of her bones.
"N-next time, don't throw strangers in the water asshole. I can't s-swim," Abigail stuttered as she shivered. She breathed out as her rescuer wrapped a thick coat around her. Shivering she let out a quiet thanks. "At least they didn't get m-my laptop."

Date: 2014-10-21 05:17 pm (UTC)"Get out of here, and don't pull shit like this again. High school ends, you know. Then it's just you in the real world, and no letterman jacket will help you." Caden waves him off and turns back towards the girl once he's gone, laughing a little and hauling the laptop bag up onto the dry sand where it's safe.
He smiles even as he shivers, thin tee shirt clinging wetly to his muscular frame, and runs his fingers through his hair to get it up off of his forehead. "At least there's that. I'm a writer, so I know how precious a laptop can be."
Her lips are starting to go pink again, instead of a ghastly white, and Caden nods a little in relief. It makes him a little nervous that she doesn't want to see a doctor, but it's her choice. "I'm Caden, by the way."

Date: 2014-10-21 05:57 am (UTC)Saving a drowning person was a pretty risky thing, even if you were a good swimmer. She knew that there was always a chance the person you were trying to save might drown you along with them. Under the water she saw a girl sinking, clearly unable to swim. Kicking harder Genevieve dove down and wrapped her arms under the other girl's before kicking back up toward the surface, praying she could haul the girl up.

Date: 2014-10-21 08:58 am (UTC)Feeling arms wrap around her, she held the last of her breath and stubbornly ignored the little part of her screaming to breathe, to shift, to change, to be just like her dad. Oh god, she was so stubborn and stupid and she was going to die because of her stupid dad and-
"Oh god," Abby gasped air in as they broke the surface, trying not to panic as she panted and sucked as much air in as she could.

Date: 2014-10-21 03:44 pm (UTC)"Hey, hey, you're okay," Genevieve said between breaths as she worked toward pulling the girl toward the shore. She was doing okay now but if the girl struggled she might have to let her go and she really didn't want to do that.
"I've got you. I've got you but I need you to stay relaxed, just like you are."

Date: 2014-10-21 04:06 pm (UTC)"We're almost there, just a bit more and we can stand then we'll kick their ass together," she said. She wasn't sure what the guys had done to the girl and why she was so angry but someone had almost drowned and that wasn't okay. But they could deal with that AFTER they got safely to shore.

Date: 2014-10-21 03:05 pm (UTC)While she was just enjoying the ocean wind until she'd regret all the sand in her fur.
HELP, she meows, darting back to the sidewalk to get anyone's attention. DROWNING HUMAN.
People ignore her, instead of for some kicks at her because the use of her claws, and Lena takes a deep breath before running back to the beach.
As a human she can swim like a fish, as a cat, she's not so sure. But surprising the girl with a wet cat around might make her stop panicking.
She jumps in, screams because of the cold and peddles towards the girl.

She stares, pulling her headphones down, and that's when she hears the boys yelling, catches sight of the girl surface, flailing. She knows her, the computer girl with the shitty dad.
She's totally drowning. "Shit!"
Mira pauses only a second before throwing her hoodie down on the sand, shoes and headphones following and running into the water to swim out after the girl. And the cat that thinks it's a lifeguard. What the hell?

Date: 2014-10-22 08:09 pm (UTC)She meows a sad little noise because the fur on her body is heavy and her legs are growing tired but now someone else saw her she can swim back to the beach, right?

Instead, she dips under and has to work really hard to not yell out in surprise. Never open your mouth under the surface, even when you're a cat.

Date: 2014-10-21 04:49 pm (UTC)He'd been further down the Boardwalk when he felt her panic with his magic. If she hadn't been his daughter and hadn't been in the water he might never have known. As it was, he dove into the water instantly, shedding his shoes as he saw, gills spreading along his neck as he made his way to her as quickly as possible. Her body was struggling to shift to siren for to save her but she was fighting against it. He sent his magic out to her and shut down the desire to change. He wasn't a matriarch but he was good with his magic and it probably helped that she was his daughter. He wrapped his arms around her and used his magic to calm her down as he shot to the surface.
"You're safe," he gasped once they broke the water. "I have you, you're safe, Abigail."

Date: 2014-10-21 05:13 pm (UTC)Feeling strong arms wrap around her, she gripped onto them tightly as her rescuer pulled her to the surface. Exhaling, she gasped and pulled in breath as she pressed her face against her would-be heroes chest. Hearing her dad's voice was kind of the last straw for hearing, shoulders shaking she tried not to cry as she held onto him tightly.
She was safe, he had her. He had her.

Date: 2014-10-21 05:39 pm (UTC)"I've got you, I've got you," he repeated, holding her tight as he walked them both out of the water, not quite ready to set her down. If she wanted to let go he would let her but he couldn't deny how protective he felt about her. He had almost lost her (even if she was "his" in the loosest sense of the word). Robert was angry too, angry at those who had done this to her and angry at himself for being the sort of person who she hated so much she wouldn't shift even to save her life.
"It's over, we're out of the water now."

"Thank you," Abigail murmured. She didn't want to say it, she didn't ever want to owe him anything but... he deserved it. She could be angry with him later, she was too wet and cold and tired and hungry to be angry. Mostly she was just cold.

Date: 2014-10-21 06:47 pm (UTC)It broke something inside him to hear that "daddy", memories of when Corry had called him that and when Abigail had said it when she was ten. Happier times, times when they were glad to see him and didn't hate him. For the first time in a long time he wished that maybe he'd been a better father and heard that more often.
"Let's go get you someplace warm," he said, heading back up to the Boardwalk to from the young men had wisely fled. Robert would find them though, he'd find them and make them pay.
