The air is bitter cold, and the snow not yet all melted, but cold is good for clear thinking given the situation, and Corry keeps hold of Abby's hand until she decides the let go. The corner drug store is close enough that it's practically visible stepping out from The Quill. But Corry also knows every step is a mile in a time like this.

They cross a small intersection and the brown sign and gold awning looms in front of them.
"You should have been more careful. Fortunately for you there are pills and rings and all sorts of things so in the future, you have no excuse. And we all make mistakes, have you seen the utter hole of despair I left my marriage in?"
When they reach the door, Corrine holds it open for her, giving her another smile of reassurance. "After you."
