Caden was getting some fresh air on the boardwalk when he heard the commotion and looked over in time to see the girl get thrown off the side. Gasping in horror and anger, Caden runs over and snaps a picture of the boys with his phone so he can show it to the police if need be. He grabs the nearest one by the jacket and pulls him in with a rough jerk as he toes out of his shoes.
"All of you better stay here and still be here when I get back. I've got nothing better to do than hunt you little assholes down if you run." He pushes the guy away and shrugs out of his jacket as he hops up onto the railing and dives down into the water below.
He moves the water with graceful precision, just like he always has, and slings an arm around the girl's waist just as she hits the sandy bottom. She's small and he's up to the surface in no time, cutting through the water with one arm and heading for the shore.
The boys are still looking over the railing when Caden looks up and he glares at them. He tears his attention away form them to focus on the girl as he lays her gently on the sand. She's very young and pale and most importantly not moving, not breathing, and Caden swallows hard as he leans over her and pinches her nose.
"Please don't kill me for this," he mutters, and then presses his mouth to hers to breathe air back into her lungs.
